Higher Education Act Reform

Nearly 10 years ago, members of Congress passed an amendment to the Higher Education Act which prohibited people with drug convictions from receiving any form of federal financial aid. In 2006, Congress passed a partial reform to the act, allowing some students with convictions to receive aid, but preventing those who commit drug crimes while they are in school and receiving aid to continue to receive aid. I received an email from the Drug Policy Alliance today saying that a group of Democrats who promised to repeal the entire portion of the Higher Education act amendment have now backed down from their promise. Here is a link to Drug Policy Alliance’s action center, where you can write your US representative about this issue.
